General Public

We here at stillbirthday offer a number of helpful resources for loved ones, our own communities, and simply the general public who have not endured loss before.

We do understand that it is uncomfortable and awkward to know how to support us.

Please utilize the resources here that we have  collected and pieced together for you.  They include:

  • Our Friends and Family section on what to say and how to help.
  • Our Outside Insight / P.R. section offers useful news and thoughts for you.
  • Please, take your time around stillbirthday.  Read our stories, see the photos of our children, and understand that we are grieving.
  • Consider getting involved in supporting families through grief in honor of your loved one’s child.  Visit our Connections tab to see how.

Books for You:

I Never Know What to Say: How to Help Your Family & Friends Cope with Tragedy – Nina Donnelly

The Courage to Grieve: Creative Living, Recovery & Growth Through Grief – Judy Tatelbaum

When Your Friend is Grieving: Building a Bridge of Love – Paula D’Arcy

BIRTH & BEREAVEMENT QUOTES

Waiting is painful. Forgetting is painful. But not knowing which to do is the worse kind of suffering.

— Paulo Coelho

Fear keeps us focused on the past or worried about the future. If we can acknowledge our fear, we can realize that right now we are okay. Right now, today, we are still alive, and our bodies are working marvelously. Our eyes can still see the beautiful sky. Our ears can still hear the voices of our loved ones.

— Thich Nhat Hanh

People have a hard time letting go of their suffering. Out of a fear of the unknown, they prefer suffering that is familiar.

— Thich Nhat Hanh

Hope is important because it can make the present moment less difficult to bear. If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear a hardship today.

— Thich Nhat Hanh

You must submit to supreme suffering in order to discover the completion of joy.

— John Calvin
