Your Faculty Aide: Jen Cantrell, SBD

Hi there, I’m Jen. Married to my hero, an Army Veteran. Living in Michigan, born and raised in Michigan.
I’ve been certified since 2014. And added my Chaplin certification in 2015.
I began this journey after seeking the support of a SBD during the rainbow pregnancy of my 4th living child. I knew that being the support for others that she was to me was my calling as a way to honor my 15 children that live not in my arms, but everyday in my heart.

Now I’m a Faculty Aide because I love assisting new students throughout their journey, since I was a young child I always said “when I grow up, I want to be a teacher!” I have been a preschool teacher for 21 years and I gave up that dream to be readily available to families. So what better way to still be a teacher of sorts. My hope for learners on this journey is for them to be open and kind to themselves. The journey through this course is by no means an easy one but I promise, it’s so very worth it.

I look forward to seeing your growth and development during the course.

Waiting is painful. Forgetting is painful. But not knowing which to do is the worse kind of suffering.

— Paulo Coelho

Fear keeps us focused on the past or worried about the future. If we can acknowledge our fear, we can realize that right now we are okay. Right now, today, we are still alive, and our bodies are working marvelously. Our eyes can still see the beautiful sky. Our ears can still hear the voices of our loved ones.

— Thich Nhat Hanh

People have a hard time letting go of their suffering. Out of a fear of the unknown, they prefer suffering that is familiar.

— Thich Nhat Hanh

Hope is important because it can make the present moment less difficult to bear. If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear a hardship today.

— Thich Nhat Hanh

You must submit to supreme suffering in order to discover the completion of joy.

— John Calvin
