Thank you, for your interest in the SBD doula training.

This page serves to simply expand in further detail the concepts of supporting students well along this journey.  It begins with specific components within stillbirthday and concludes with general guidelines for student conduct.

 

About Tuition

Once your payment is received, you are considered registered for our training, and you have certain rights and responsibilities once your registration is complete.

Stillbirthday provides the most comprehensive birth and bereavement support training in the world.  As a registered student, it is so very important for you to begin the SBD mindset, even now.

 

Behavior & Conduct Policy

The stillbirthday birth and bereavement training is at times emotionally challenging.  It is not uncommon for a student to desire a small break or an extension of their session as the course content invites them to explore their own emotional healing.   Training simply resumes once the student and the team agree to move forward with it.

Should there be a suspected issue of conduct that could potentially interfere with your quality of supportive services to families, private dialogue may begin, and may suspend or replace your training.

If it is determined or suspected that private dialogue was unsuccessful at resolving an issue, recommendations for more intensive support, including counseling, may be made, and may need to be fulfilled before resuming the training.  Many of the SBD students are bereaved parents themselves, and we at stillbirthday understand that grief can bring with it enormous challenges, which we may not always respond to as well as we might otherwise.  If you are an SBD student or are considering our training and you know that your journey has included situations that may appear controversial or potentially damaging to your professional character, we ask that you consider sharing these things with us.  We do not offer financial refunds to registered students, because your financial commitment to your doula training is immediately reinvested into the work of stillbirthday, and because, quite simply, this serves as a measure of protection to limit the number of prospective enrollees whose objectives may be compromised; we each as voluntarily bring our years of experiences to our roles here, and as such, we understand that the temptation for you to quit, stop even before you start, or drop out, are all opportunities for something much bigger – your own growth, and our growth, together as a team.  Rich healing can come through transparency, as painful as it might be.  Re-taking the training is also a possibility, as outlined in the materials.

We care about every family we serve, and this includes you.

We want to see you grow and develop professionally, and we know that this will only happen if you grow and develop emotionally.

In word and action, maintaining a personal code of conduct is important.  After you complete our training, you will read and sign our Principles of Service.  All doulas listed at stillbirthday have read and agreed to them as condition to being listed here, and it is assumed students do as well.

Confidentiality

Do not reveal identifying information from your professional experiences, and any photos you might share must have express, written permission from the person depicted.    Identifying information is defined as including any name of any location or person, including the babies themselves.
You are not allowed to mock, ridicule, shame, sarcastically or rudely communicate with or condemn either privately or publicly any fellow SBD student, faculty or contributer at any time.

  • Limited Extension of Permission upon Graduation

You are not allowed to share, trade, transit, exchange, duplicate or reveal access encryption, links, files, codes, content or any information learned in the session of the training or from within the classroom with anyone outside of the classroom – even in the central stillbirthday group or in any stillbirthday related group, page, blog or other platform. Neither are you permitted to create any learning, sharing or exchanging medium with others, in or outside of your training session, without prior approval and moderation by stillbirthday.  We provide you with pre- selected, minimal portions of our training compiled into a Client Curriculum as a resource for you to use, and only within a very specific doula/client relationship.  Our monitored Student Sharing page is a simple way to know that your sharing of your student experience isn’t breaking that trust.  Neither are you authorized to misuse any stillbirthday communication, including classroom conversation, as any kind of “ammunition against” any conversation, debate, forum or other audience.  Upon graduation you will also be provided with documents and resources that help you in offering public awareness to your role and services.

In this line, if you have taken a training from another organization, it is required that you maintain the confidentiality and integrity of the other organization.  You will not share contents of any other training with stillbirthday, with Heidi Faith, or with any student or anyone within stillbirthday whatsoever.  Stillbirthday is a program that is important and valuable, based on our own merit, and we uphold the integrity and value that other trainings also bring.  In fact, we will link you to various supplemental resources and programs through the training.

Misrepresentations of History, Intent, Certification or Character 

You are authorized to share publicly that you are an SBD student.   Only upon successful completion of the course (8 weeks training plus 2 book reviews and 1 community project), you will earn the federally protected and globally respected designation of certified Birth and Bereavement Doula.

Also important to know at this stage, is that any fraudulent or misrepresentations of your background, character or service are taken seriously.  Forgery, manufacturing altered or tampered letters of recommendation or certifications – ours or others – will be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.  Every part of stillbirthday is proprietary and copyright protected, including your certification.  This protects the students who work so very hard to serve the families of their communities.

It is unacceptable, unprofessional, and illegal to apply for the stillbirthday training only to receive the contents and then rescript them into something you market with your own name on them.  Individuals enrolling into the doula program with the objective of teaching hospitals or teaching others how to serve families need to first slow down, first engage in the training, first actually serve families from within your own community and from within the scope of the credentialed Birth and Bereavement Doula.  We offer fantastic partnership options for you to share with others from within your community whom you want to see supporting families as well.   The SBD credential is one of excellence, it is a designation of a stamp of quality that is federally registered and is monitored freely by the public.  Pulling anything away from stillbirthday and rewriting it for your own gain is a disservice not only to the SBD doulas who endure and work hard in our circle of trust, it is a disservice to your own agenda as no matter the breadth of content stolen or rescripted it will never hold the enormity of what is the stillbirthday relationship, but most importantly, it is a horrendous disservice to those families who would be supported by an individual part of our global family and who has successfully completed our emotionally rigorous and academically intensive program.  Our program is affordable so that it is accessible, because we all bring something tremendous together.  Your moving forward is recognition that you honor that.

While the aforementioned issues pertain to suspected areas or issues that may be alluded to in our learning time together, there certainly can be individuals for whom our training just isn’t best for.  Please read our published Frequently Asked Questions for more.  We take our investment of time and energy toward those who desire to grow and learn seriously, and those who show a clearly demonstrated hostile, volatile, belligerent, socially aggressive or otherwise harmful presence toward their fellow classmates may simply not qualify for completing the training session and by such deliberate action forfeit their placement in the program.

All considerations of student mentoring, transferring, or dropping of a class is at the sole discretion of stillbirthday as an institution carried out by its founder, who strives to personally ensure that every representative of stillbirthday represents the founding principles and exhibits a demonstrated and consistent understanding of and desire to continue to pursue serving others with our objectives and principles of service.  It is important for you to know that you are always invited to connect directly with Heidi Faith at any time with any questions or concerns you may have.

Failure to Progress

The search for uninhibited validation is often a fundamental and pervasive quest of the bereaved.   This struggle is found as a  feeling that others are defending ideas or principles or ideologies, rather than simply coming alongside and just flat defending the person.  As such, student confidentiality is maintained to the highest possible standard, including by those individuals for whom stillbirthday is not the best fit.   It’s an unfortunate truth that not only will stillbirthday not be the best match for an individual, but that the individual may not have the self-permission and the self-discipline to simply accept that maturely. I don’t want to fuel that by defending a place that is already upright and insodoing, jeopardizing the fleeting moment I may have had with someone by engaging in a toxic banter with them.  Every person has a right to opinion and feelings.

With this said, a student’s successful progression through the course is not dependent only on completion of exams, but on a displayed conduct that exemplifies the spirit of the stillbirthday community.

Manners

An over-indulgence in self-righteousness is an interference to humility, curiosity, and an ability to serve.

As a learner, you will be exposed to things that may make you feel uncomfortable.  It is my job to prepare you for that in ways that mirror what will happen in real situations you may serve in.  It is not only a certainty that you will be uncomfortable, you may even be offended.  It is your right as a student to share any feelings, concerns, questions, frustrations, doubts, anxieties, or any other perspectives you are experiencing directly with Heidi Faith.  I take your feelings seriously and dedicate myself to committing time to hearing your heart.  It is not your right to try to navigate aversions from the training environment to wrestle for a place of authority.  I am the founder of stillbirthday and I am your faculty.  I establish the tone of our learning environment and I share that platform with those who seek to guide you in navigating the material to respond to exams.  I share the platform with students, who want to share, post pictures, links, questions, comments or thoughts, but to derail the safety environment as a whole to unpack stored anger and misdirected hostility is an abuse of the learning environment and if a student manipulates the trusting environment by exhausting the attention, time and energy of the Leads, students and/or myself, the student will simply not qualify for credentialing.  There are multiple sources from our previous experiences that might have instilled in us concepts that might have value at their core but have become corrupt and toxic to the core of stillbirthday values.  Habits of perspective and of misuse of concepts, application and even relevant vocabulary can take time to work through, and I commit to investing in your healthiest journey, but I will need your commitment as well, through a demonstrated and progressively improved effort toward the principles learned in the training content.  We uphold respect and words of affirmation for one another and our organization at all times.   Practice now, exploring the concept that the role of doula isn’t compartmentalized and exclusively only for laboring mothers.  You can doula every person you meet, by slowing down, validating, providing options and supplementing resources.  You don’t know yet how that fully looks and pieces together, but for now, simply start by sharpening your manners.  They are a skill set.

Stillbirthday gives platform for students to engage freely, within our frame of mutually uplifting engagement, while also practicing communicating as SBD certified doulas. As such, there’s a lot of liberty that can be taken in our speech during this time, but it does need to be moderated and sometimes, edified.   The opinions of your fellow classmates are not necessarily those endorsed by stillbirthday.  Through the journey, we strive toward affirming your authentic exploration while also protecting the hearts of your fellow classmates.  These values at times are at odds with one another and decisions of moderation and edification are done with an endless pursuit of best discernment.  Please know that your opinions not only of the training content, the classroom dialogue, and faculty decisions all are important to me and you can communicate your feelings with me at any time.

To limit the occasions of student communications that might not be within the stillbirthday foundational structure of support, it is a wise decision to review our Principles of Service now, so that you’ll have an idea of the ways we support and why we support in the manner in which we do.  Stillbirthday maintains the right as a collegiate level institution to remove a student from the program at any time for violating the written rules of the course, including those regarding social conduct.  Your tuition does not mean a purchase of our credential or of unlimited access to all of the contents, but is an investment toward the prestigious SBD Doula credential, and all it entails.  Access to the materials is a privilege of those moving forward successfully and for our credentialed SBD doulas.

Revocation of Student Privileges

It is considered a priviledge to participate in this doula training program, in any or all of its resources for you.  Our Principles of Service begin at registration and are enforced throughout your learning journey.

Ceasing Engagement in Unproductive Communication

Because matters of student successful progression are evaluated, assessed and determined by the institution’s founder, when it is determined that a dialogue may be unproductive to engage in, or only be pursued or continued out of belligerence, aggression, mockery, exaggerated entitlement, provocation or bullying, passively or explicitly, communications between student and faculty may cease altogether or for an uncertain amount of time, rather than or prior to the institution pursuing legal and rightful ramifications in the matter.  Faculty and founder reserve the right to disengage in communications with students or others determined to be unhealthy, unnecessary or unproductive.  The goal of the program is to achieve successful credentialing; the person who wears the SBD credential, isn’t the person who did the best at trying to fool faculty or others into thinking they are legitimately capable of emotional stamina and compassionate wherewithal. It’s the person who can authentically demonstrate an unwavering, universality of upholding and espousing of SBD values, held within the spirit of our Principles of Service.

Endurance & Vulnerability

The SBD doula training is emotionally intensive and the study is rigorous.  It is not uncommon for a student to find the training inviting them into a space of new growth in their own journey.  Learning together allows us to be raw and transparent in rich and healing ways.  I encourage you to be open and curious about what the study and the environment might bring you, and, what you might bring to the other students.  We care very deeply for our students, and I want to reiterate that as an enrolled student, we also hold you within our student support mentoring and that you are held accountable to the SBD high standards of professionalism, of respecting your humble but significantly valuable role in your community, even now.

Core Training Contents & Preparatory Installations

From the files within the actual classroom you’ll receive access to the main Student Resources module, which is a hub to all of the 8 modules.  You’ll move forward through the modules in sequential order, by successfully completing the corresponding chapter reading and open book exam.  Students who are pursuing certification totally outside of utilizing the facebook social classroom will receive an Entrance email that points them to the Student Resources link.

The chapter files are received through an instant download process within each module page.  Your device may require having the latest edition of Adobe Reader installed.  If you’ll be using your iPad or other device, you might install Adobe Reader for Mobile, DropBox or a reading app such as Notability.  Our files have been downloaded hundreds and hundreds of times and do not contain any malicious content.  However, it is your responsibility to upkeep your computer with anti virus protection.

Student Code of Conduct

SBD U integrates, amends and applies the following Student Code of Conduct from BARNARD COLLEGE into our College, to provide clarity of our code of conduct within our virtual university as it is comparable to such a distinguished College.  We have only altered language from its original form for our relevance.

 Community Standards

It is our goal to uphold the past, present, and future integrity of the Institution and the community by adhering to the highest standards of honesty and respect.

We pledge to do all that is in our power to follow these principles to create a spirit of integrity, respect, and responsibility that allows us to honor ourselves, one another and the College community.

I. CODE OF CONDUCT

A. General Principles

The College Code of Conduct (Student Code) is a guide for all members of the college community to the expectations regarding conduct within the community. The Student Code holds students of and visitors to the Community to a high standard of behavior, both to protect the campus community, and to promote consideration and respect for individuals of our community in support of the mission of the College.

The following rights and expectations apply to all students:

You have the right to freedom of inquiry, and you are expected to know and adhere to the Student Code of Conduct.

You have the right to freedom of expression, and you are expected to exercise regard for the rights and sensitivities of others.

You have the right to freedom of discussion, and you are expected to engage in respectful discourse, accepting others’ rights to diverse opinions.

Within the framework established in the rules and regulations of this code, an individual is as free as possible to conduct their own academic and non-academic life making decisions in acceptance of responsibility should such choices violate these regulations.

B. Conduct Rules and Regulations

Students are required to engage in responsible social conduct that reflects credit upon the College community and to model good citizenship in any community.  Any student found to have committed or to have attempted to commit the following misconduct is subject to disciplinary action:

  1. Acts of dishonesty, not covered [above], including but not limited to the following:
    • Furnishing false information to any College official, faculty member, or office.
    • Forgery, alteration, or misuse of any College document, record, or instrument of identification.
  2. Conduct which threatens or endangers the health or safety of any person.
    • Physical abuse, threats, intimidation, and/or coercion.
    • Verbal abuse, intimidation, and/or coercion.
    • Written communication, whether hard copy or electronic means (including but not limited to texts, emails, other social media), that includes threats, intimidation, and/or coercion.
  3. Attempted or actual theft of and/or damage to property of the College, or property of a member of the College community, or other personal or public property, on or off campus.
  4. Hazing, defined as any reckless or intentional act which endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student, for the purpose of initiation, admission into, affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in, a group or organization.  This may include the destruction or removal of public or private property, or any act that a reasonable person would find demeaning, uncomfortable, embarrassing, humiliating or ridiculing.  The expressed or implied consent of participants will not be an excuse.  Apathy or acquiescence in the presence of hazing are not neutral acts; they are violations of this policy.
  5. Failure to comply with directions of College officials, Public Safety officers, or law enforcement officers acting in performance of their duties and/or failure to identify oneself to these persons when requested to do so.
  6. Unauthorized possession, duplication or use of keys to any College premises or unauthorized entry to or use of College premises.
  7. Use or possession of marijuana, heroin, narcotics, or other controlled substances except as expressly permitted by law.  Misuse of prescription medication.  The use of synthetic substances or other items ingested for intoxication effect.  Manufacturing or distribution of marijuana, heroin, narcotics, prescription medication, or other controlled substances.
  8. Use, possession, manufacturing, or distribution of alcoholic beverages (except as expressly permitted by College regulations), or public intoxication.  Alcoholic beverages may not, in any circumstance, be used, possessed by, or distributed to any person under twenty-one (21) years of age.
    In addition to making healthy choices, students are encouraged not only to look out for their own health and safety but also for that of their peers.
  9. Illegal or unauthorized possession of firearms, explosives, other weapons, or dangerous chemicals on College premises or use of any such item, even if legally possessed, in a manner that harms, threatens or causes fear to others.
  10. Participating in an on-campus or off-campus demonstration, riot or activity that significantly disrupts the normal operations of the College and/or unreasonably infringes on the rights of other members of the College community; Impeding access/egress to buildings or infringing upon the rights of others to access normal activities within any campus building, area, or program.
  11. Deliberate obstruction of the free flow of pedestrian or vehicular traffic, or other behavior that infringes upon public safety on College premises or at College sponsored or supervised functions.  Disruption or obstruction of teaching, research, administration, disciplinary proceedings; other College activities, including its public service functions on or off campus; or of other authorized non-College activities when the conduct occurs on College premises, such that others are deprived of access to such scheduled activities.
  12. Exposing others to conduct that is disorderly, lewd, or indecent; breach of peace; or aiding, abetting, or coercing another person to breach the peace on College premises or at functions sponsored by, or participated in by, the College or members of the academic community.
  13. Acts of Discrimination and Harassment, including but not limited to sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking. These procedures may also be used to address alleged violations of additional policies occurring in conjunction with harassing or discriminatory conduct (e.g. damage to property, conduct which threatens or endangers the health or safety of any person, etc.).
  14. Violation of the College Posting Policy*.
  15. Violation of any other College or University policy, rule, or regulation published in hard copy or available electronically on the College website.
  16. Violation of federal, state, or local law.
  17. Any unauthorized use of electronic or other devices to make an audio or video record of any person while on College premises without his/her prior knowledge, or without his/her knowing and willing consent when such a recording is likely to cause injury or distress. This includes, but is not limited to, surreptitiously taking pictures of another person in a gym, locker room, or restroom; or creating social media communication or profiles using the name or likeness of another.  In general, filming of audio or video on College premises, whether for academic or other purposes, must be approved in advance by the [College].
  18. Theft or other abuse of computer facilities and resources, including but not limited to:
    • Unauthorized entry into a file, to use, read, or change the contents, or for any other purpose. Unauthorized use of another individual’s identification and/or password.
    • Unauthorized transfer of a file.  Use of computing facilities and resources in violation of copyright laws.
    • Use of computing facilities and resources to interfere with the work of another student, faculty member or College Official.  Use that interferes with normal operation of the College computing system.
    • Use of computing facilities and resources to send obscene or abusive messages.
    • Any other violation of the College.
  19. Abuse of the Student Conduct System, including but not limited to:
    • Retaliation or threatening (verbal or physical) and/or intimidation of a member of [College].
    • Attempting to interfere with an individual’s proper participation in, or use of, the student conduct system.  Attempting to influence the impartiality of a member of [the College].
  20. Failure to comply with the sanction(s) imposed [above].

II.  ORGANIZATION & PROCEDURES OF STUDENT CONDUCT SYSTEM

A. Student Code of Conduct Authority

  1. Decisions made by [College founder] acting as a Student Conduct Board and/or Student Conduct Administrator shall be final.
  2. The “Honor Code” sets expectations related to cheating, plagiarism, and other acts of academic dishonesty.  The “Honor System” refers to the process of educating the community about the Honor Code, as well as investigating and responding to allegations of violation of the Honor Code.
  3. Definitions can be found in the Policy Against Discrimination and Harassment (the “Policy”).  That policy covers discrimination and harassment on the basis of a protected classification, including discrimination or harassment of an individual in connection with a stereotyped group characteristic, or because of that person’s identification with a particular group.  Such discrimination or harassment includes any conduct, verbal, nonverbal, or physical, on or off campus, that has the effect, because of its severity and/or persistence, of unreasonably interfering with an individual or group’s educational or work performance or that creates an intimidating or hostile educational, work, or living environment.  Definitions of domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, sexual assault and consent are found in the Policy.

B. Jurisdiction of the Student Code

The College Student Code of Conduct shall apply to conduct that occurs on College premises, at College sponsored activities, and to off-campus conduct that involves or adversely affects the College Community and/or the pursuit of its objectives.

  1. Each student shall be responsible for her conduct from the time of application for admission through the actual awarding of a degree. This includes students who have matriculated to, are currently enrolled in, are on leave from, or have been readmitted (following a dismissal) to programs of the College (and even if their conduct is not discovered until after a degree is awarded).  The Student Code shall apply to a student’s conduct even if the student withdraws from school while a disciplinary matter is pending.
  2. The founder of the College or her designee shall decide whether the Student Code shall be applied to conduct occurring off campus, on a case by case basis, in her/his sole discretion.  In making the determination to pursue conduct violation that occurred off campus, considerations include but are not limited to:  the seriousness of the alleged offense, the risk of harm involved, whether the victim(s) is a member of the campus community and/or whether the off campus conduct had or could have an adverse effect on the campus community.

C. Sanctions

One purpose of the student conduct system is that of an educational process, to guide students toward understanding consequences of decision making.  When found responsible for violation of policy, the outcome will include sanction(s) imposed as a consequence of behavior.

  1. The following sanctions may be imposed upon any student found to have violated the Code of Student Conduct:
    • Warning—A notice in writing to the student that the student is violating or has violated specified regulation(s) of the Student Code.   Students who receive a warning are reminded of the need to be familiar and comply with all College policies.
    • Educational Sanction or Project—Work assignments, reflective essays, service to the College, or other related discretionary assignment(s).  Educational sanctions are based on an individual assessment of each case, and can reflect both the circumstances of the violation and the individual student(s) involved.
    • Counseling Referral – Required meeting(s) such as Alcohol and Substance Awareness Program (ASAP) assessment or other College provided support, assessment, or counseling services.
    • Probation—A written reprimand for violation of specified regulation(s).  Probation is for a designated period of time and includes the probability of more severe disciplinary sanctions if the student is found to violate any College regulation(s) during the probationary period. Probationary status may also preclude a student from participation in events or opportunities that require a student to be in good standing.
    • Loss of Privileges—Denial of specified privileges for a designated period of time.  This may include, but is not limited to, loss of guest or visitation privileges in the residence halls or other specified campus location and ineligibility to run for or removal from office of organization(s).
    • Fines—Established and published fines may be imposed.
    • Restitution—Compensation for loss, damage, or injury. This may take the form of appropriate service and/or monetary payment for related cleaning, repair or material replacement of College property.
    • College Suspension—Separation of the student from the College with a specified [or unspecified] effective date and imposed for a definite [or indefinite] period of time, after which the student is eligible to return.  Conditions for readmission may be specified.  Access to campus property, programs, and resources may be restricted during periods of suspension.
    • College Expulsion—Permanent separation of the student from the College, with no eligibility for readmission.  Restrictions on access to campus property, programs, and resources may also be imposed upon expulsion
    • Revocation of Admission and/or Degree—Admission to or a degree awarded from the College may be revoked for fraud, misrepresentation, or other violation of College standards in obtaining the degree, or for other serious violations committed by a student prior to graduation.
    • Withholding Degree—The College may withhold awarding a degree otherwise earned until the completion of the process set forth in this Code of Student Conduct, including the completion of all sanctions imposed, if any.
    • Registration Hold – Students who withdraw from the College while conduct violation is pending may have a hold placed on their record requiring resolution of the conduct matter prior to consideration for readmission.
    • Transcript Notation – In some instances, along with suspension or expulsion, or when a student withdraws while a conduct matter subject to suspension or expulsion is not yet resolved, a transcription notation may be made to indicate that a student’s status was a result of a finding of responsibility for violation of the Code of Conduct.
    • No Contact Directive – As an interim measure and/or an outcome following investigation and/or adjudication, a No Contact Directive may be imposed.  A No Contact Directive specifies an expectation that there be no direct or indirect (via electronic means or third party) contact with the specified party.  Such directive may include instructions for navigating this restriction within the campus community and beyond; may restrict or allow access to specific events, buildings or programs; and/or describe expected response if the other party is encountered.
  2. More than one of the sanctions listed above may be imposed for any single violation.
  3. Student conduct records may be maintained within the College and are part of any student’s educational records for purpose of FERPA.  Disciplinary action shall become part of the student’s disciplinary or conduct record. Cases involving the imposition of sanctions other than College suspension, College expulsion or revocation or withholding of a degree shall be purged from the student’s disciplinary record no sooner than seven (7) years after graduation or final disposition of the case (whichever is later).
  4. A disciplinary record may be shared with campus administrators for educational purposes.  Disciplinary outcome may be shared with employers or other schools, as allowed by FERPA, a student release of FERPA or other request of the student.  Students who have questions about their records, wish to seek permission for exception, or are seeking guidance regarding disclosure on applications can schedule to meet with the founder (or designee) to review and discuss their records.
  5. A student may need to disclose their conduct history if asked.  Students are commonly asked to disclose in response to a general question on an application (e.g. graduate school, some summer academic programs).  Students are encouraged to read application questions carefully. Often the question specifies disclosure of conduct that results in separation from the College (suspension or expulsion); occasionally, the inquiry is much broader, asking about any conduct action, even if resolved informally.
  6. A student may need to be in good standing in order to be eligible for some programs or privileges.  Students on residential probation are not in good standing, and thus may have other privileges restricted as a result. They will need to seek permission to participate in programs or privileges that require a student be in good standing.
  7. Not all policy violations are viewed equally.  Sanctioning may be progressive during the time of being a student.This means that, if applicable, prior conduct history will be taken into account for sanction(s) issued in response to future violations.

D.  Violation of Law and College Discipline

  1. College disciplinary proceedings may be instituted against a student alleged to have engaged in conduct that potentially violates both the criminal law and this Student Code of Conduct (that is, if both possible violations result from the same factual situation) without regard to the pendency of civil or criminal litigation in court or criminal arrest and prosecution.
  2. Determinations made or sanctions imposed under this Student Code shall not be subject to change because criminal charges arising out of the same facts giving rise to violation of College rules were dismissed, reduced, or resolved in favor of or against the criminal case defendant.
  3. When a student is charged by federal, state, or local authorities with a violation of law, the College will not request or agree to special consideration for that individual because of her status as a student. The College will attempt to cooperate with law enforcement and other agencies in the enforcement of criminal law in the conditions imposed by criminal courts for the rehabilitation of student violators (provided that the conditions do not conflict with campus rules or sanctions).  Individual students and other members of the College community, acting in their personal capacities, remain free to interact with governmental representatives as they deem appropriate.
  4. Nothing in this Code shall be construed to limit the provision of penal law that may apply to criminal action that may be an alleged conduct violation.

 

INTERPRETATION AND REVISION

  1. Any question of interpretation or application of the Code shall be referred to the founder or her designee for final determination.
  2. While these academic and non-academic disciplinary procedures are intended to establish guidelines for the proper evaluation of academic and non-academic infractions, it is sometimes neither possible nor advisable to adhere strictly to such guidelines. Therefore, provided that the parties are afforded proper fairness — prior notice of the substance of the complaint or grievance, a fair and reasonable opportunity to present evidence and to respond to the grievance, and an opportunity to appeal any decision on the basis that substantial fairness was not provided — reasonable deviations from the process set forth herein shall be permitted.
  3. The Code shall be reviewed and altered as appropriate.
